Accessing the Library's Microform Collection

With the opening of the new Hardiman Research building, we have divided the microform collections so that researchers and students alike can access the resources they require.

Location One - Microform Room –Ground Floor James Hardiman Library

In general the microform newspapers such as the Irish Times, the Irish Independent, provincial/historical papers and the Irish Folklore Commission can be accessed here.

There are some resources provided on open shelving but for safekeeping and space reasons, the majority of the newspaper microform titles are located in the Library basement and can be requested from the Library & IT Desk.

Location Two - Microform Reading Room –Adjacent to Special Collection Room Hardiman Research Building

All other research focussed resources are located in the new Research Microfilm Reading Room. These resources include the Eighteenth Century Journals, Galway Maps & Archives and many more specialised resources.

For more information about our microform collections (including a list of microform titles and locations) see the Library Website.
