Christmas Books and Books for Christmas

Th e Library has set up a display of books for the festive season  on the Ground Floor adjacent to the Library & IT Desk. This display includes books and some DVDs with a Christmas theme.  It also includes a selection of new books from the Popular Reading Collection, including some award-winning titles from  An Post Irish Book Awards 2022 .  You are welcome to borrow any of the displayed titles or have a browse of our Popular Reading Collection for some reading over the Christmas period and the new year. Library Awarded Project as part of Ireland’s National Action Plan for Open Research 2022-2030

The National Action Plan for Open Research 2022-2030 was launched 21 November by the National Open Research Forum (NORF) . The University of Galway was awarded €220,000 to lead Action 2 on Open Access (OA) Repository Assessment and Alignment . This work is a key project to lead the national transition to open research as part of a national action plan. Open access repositories are typically operated by research active institutions to openly publish their own research. For example, the library provides a suite of open publishing platforms. The platform involved in this project is the open access publications and data repository, ARAN . This project starts a national programme of repository alignment and takes steps to develop a standardised national approach while aligning infrastructure with international best practice .  The Library is working with 13 national partners to deliver on this collective vision during the two-year project . Chrome updates affecting Digital Theatre Plus

We have been alerted to an upcoming change to Google Chrome that will require Chrome users to update their browser in order to continue watching video content on Digital Theatre Plus. Google is making changes to their Content Decryption Module (CDM) within their Widevine DRM system. This is what is responsible for decrypting DRM (digital rights management) protected content, like that offered on the Digital Theatre+ platform, allowing you to watch it.  Most devices using the Chrome browser should update automatically. However, browsers using Widevine CDM and which have automatic updates turned off for any reason will need to be manually updated to the latest CDM. If using older versions of Google Chrome after 6th December 2022, your browser will no longer be able to decrypt media content on our platform and you will not be able to watch it. Lecturers - Prepare for Semester II

In preparation for the upcoming semester we are providing in-person   training sessions   to assist lecturers in publishing their reading lists.  For lecturers new to our service, this is a sample  reading list  with links to our Library and web resources. In summary, t he Library's  Reading List Service  is  a one-stop teaching support service for academic staff.  W hen you use our service we will:  prioritise your reading lists   order required books/e-books request chapter and article digitisation (one chapter/up to 10% of a publication) provide direct linking to the list from Blackboard for your students In addition, the Reading List Service fully supports the teaching cycle. O nce the reading list is created, it will roll forward for the next academic year. R eading lists can also be shared if there are a number of staff teaching a module.
