175th Anniversary of Student Registration Photo Challenge

October 30th marks 175 years since the first cohort of 68 students registered in what was then Queens College Galway.

In celebration, we are launching a photo competition to commemorate our university’s history and growth.

Post your photos to Instagram and tag @UniofGalwayLib. We will reshare our favourite photos! There are University of Galway Hoodies to be won for the photos with the most likes in each category. There are three photo options.

1. Recreate: Check out a selection of our University’s archival images and recreate a posed photo. Period accurate costumes celebrated but not required!

2. Situate: Do you recognise the area where one of our University’s archival images was taken? See if you can capture the present-day location, line up the original photo with the modern day surrounds. Printed images are available from the Stewards’ Desk in the Library for the situate challenge. Call by if you would like one!

3. Visit: Visit the Library’s current exhibition “the Library in 100 objects” in the Hardiman Building Foyer. Take a selfie with your favourite archive or image from our Library’s history.
