Library & IT Servicedesk: Library Service of the Month
New this year at the Library & IT Servicedesk: Study and Exam Aids
We're excited to be newly offering this year a collection of Study and Exam approved Aids. These are available to any students. If you'd like to borrow, drop by the Library & IT Servicedesk to see about availability. They are available on a 3-day loan, which does not automatically renew.
The equipment includes:
CPen Exam Reader 2 – Students can point these to any printed text – a textbook, a handout, an exam paper – and hear it read aloud instantly, no phone, no app, no Wi-fi needed.
Headphones with microphone, Platronics with USB connectivity - Students can dictate answers and ideas and watch them appear on screen using their own dictation software– a game-changer for students who find it easier to speak their thoughts than to type them.
Audio headphones – Students can listen to notes, readings, or study materials through their preferred app – perfect for auditory learners or anyone who finds it easier to absorb information by ear.
Noise-cancelling headset – these can now be taken out of the Library during the day of loan for use at any in-house exams or used while studying in the Library.
The Library and partners in the Disability Support Service/Access Centre are excited to be offering this equipment as part of a commitment to the ALTITUDE Charter, the National Charter for Universal Design in Tertiary Education which focuses on widening inclusion in tertiary education.
The Library & IT Servicedesk provides level 1 support for Library and IT queries
As always, if you have a library or IT query and aren't sure where to go for help, reach out to us. It may be a simple fix that we can handle straight away at the desk. If it isn't, we'll do our best to get you on to the right person or service for the support that you need.
This might have to do with help finding a book for example, whether finding an e-book through our Library catalogue, or not being able to locate a print book in our stacks. For IT support, some of the most common queries we handle are connecting to wifi and multi-factor authentication.

Many ways to be in touch
We provide a service via a number of channels. You are very welcome to come to our physical desk, which is on the main floor of the Library, straight after you come inside the electronic gates.
We can also be reached electronically. Emails to library@universityofgalway.ie will come to Library & IT service staff in the first instance. You can also contact us by phone, we're available at 091 49 3399.
You can also get in touch with us via online chat, which you can find in the bottom right hand corner of our website. Unlike a lot of chats these days, our chat operates with real live human beings behind it, not a robot.
