Radical Newspaper Archive - New Library Subscription

The Library has taken out a subscription to the Radical Newspaper Archives, a collection of over 115 Irish radical and political newspapers, journals, pamphlets and bulletins.

This major historical resource spans the Home Rule debates of the 1880s to the beginning of the Second World War, including the 1913 Lockout, the 1916 Rising, the War of Independence, the Civil War and the Economic War of the 1930s.

Many of these newspapers are unavailable elsewhere, and this is the first time that they have been made available in one place.

The resource in particular, provides fascinating insight into the revolutionary period following 1916, a time when there was a major clampdown on radical newspapers by the Military Authority.

Some of the titles include:
  • An Claidheamh Soluis (1899-1918)
  • An SaoÄ¡al GaedealaÄ‹ (suppressed by Military Authority in 1917)
  • The Blueshirt (1933-35)
  • Notes from Ireland (1886-1918)
  • The Irish Hammer and Plough (1926)
  • Sinn Féin Daily (1909-10)
  • The Harp (Irish American newspaper first published in 1910)

A full listing of the titles included is available from the following link . The Radical Newspaper Archive can be accessed via the Irish Newspaper Archive on the Library Catalogue.
