Introducing The Academic Writing Centre Tutors


The Academic Writing Centre (AWC) will reopen for virtual consultations on 2nd February 2021.  

To book a consultation email awcbookings@nuigalway.ie and please make sure to include your student number, your subject area, and your year of study. Please also confirm if you are registered with the DSS service.

 The following are the AWC Tutors for this academic year:


Beatrice Bichara


Beatrice is a final year medical student and researcher with an undergraduate degree in East Asian Studies (Language and Philosophy stream). She enjoys writing in her free time, especially poetry. Through her studies in both Arts and the Sciences, she has discovered that these two fields complement and enrich each other.


Eva Bromell


Eva is an MA History student at NUI Galway. She has completed a BA in History and Léann an Aistriúcháin (study of translating to and from Irish). She has a great passion for learnig and academia as well as for the Irish language. She enjoys working with others in the hope of passing on her knowledge and passions


Rebecca Mann


Rebecca graduated from NUI Galway with a BA Connect in English, Spanish, and Theatre & Performance. She is currently doing the HDip in Psychology. She has worked as a blogger, an education support worker, an editor of community radio, and as a director’s assistant in a German theatre. She loves reading contemporary novels and also loves the outdoors. 


Fionnula Simpson


Fionnula is studying for a PhD in English Literature. Her thesis explores narratives of depression and institutionalization within fiction, and the potential these stories have to destigmatise mental illness. She loves reading, writing, and teaching.


Poonam Shokar


Poonam is a PhD candidate in Human Rights at the Irish Centre for Human Rights at NUI Galway.


Christopher Smart


Chris graduated from NUI Galway with a BA in English and Philosophy, and is currently studying a HDip in Economic Science. He has worked as both an English language teacher and academic tutor, and his interests include reading and languages.


What the Academic Writing Centre does


The AWC provides one-on-one tutorials on essay writing. These are free and available to everyone, regardless of level of experience, grade average, subject area, or year of study. It also supports students through workshops, modules, and competitions.
