Don't be left out in the cold....

From 7 March you must have your student ID to access the Library.

If you have lost or mislaid your card, please contact the Student Contact Centre.

It's a bit time consuming to be honest... has errors in the system. some students tend to run out for a fag forgetting their Student IDs inside of the LIBRARY premises and they are refused to enter again...
I think it should be milder! :)

I think you should be consistent. Either ask for it every time or not at all. Since Monday I have only been asked randomly. People tend not to have their IDs on them all the time if they think it's not strictly enforced. This leads to annoying queues at the entrance. I do think it's a good idea to check IDs as it stops leaving certs and other non-Nuig people from taking up seats.

In Trinity, access to the library is via swipe card - No card, no entry.

While I am commenting on the library, I feel that the library in Galway is not conducive for good study.

1. Students using their laptops, on Facebook, viewing YouTube clips, listening to music, at a high level.

2. Listening to their iPods, at a high level.

3. Taking/Making phone call, distracting others in so doing.

4. Consumption of food in library, especially in PC suites!

5. Students in group study rooms being heard outside same.

6. Students treating PC suites in library (especially in Nursing & Midwifery block) as group study rooms...When you ask them to be quiet, then look at you as if you are wrong?!

7. In the Nursing block, an alarm goes off every day, frightening the life out of all present.

8. E10 photocopy card machine doesnt work

9. First floor is warm/stuffy. Second floor much cooler. Why?

10. Are all those students using the postgrad reading rooms, postgrads?

Why dont library staff monitor these things? There are enough staff for this.

In other libraries, fines are imposed for the offences noted above.

I respect the rights of other library users, but mine are not being respected. What are the library going to do to minimise disruptions?

I hope some of the staff have seen the last comment. It pretty much sums up the library situation. I found it much stricter in the University of Limerick library whilst I was there.

I also agree that the library in Galway is not conducive for good study.

There should be some means of checking your identity if you forget or loose your id card after all there is a regestered photo on file for every one ?

I agree with all the comments above, I hope the Students Union and the Staff will address these issues, because a lot of students treat the library as a hanging out place.
