Huston Archive Exhibition to celebrate recent presentation to NUI Galway

From Wednesday 24th November an exhibition will be held in the foyer of the James Hardiman Library to celebrate the presentation of the Huston Archive to NUI Galway.

The Archive, a rare collection of director, writer and actor John Huston’s papers and recordings, was launched at a special ceremony in the University on Monday 22 November, in the presence of John’s son, Tony (who was nominated for an Academy Award for his screenplay of The Dead) and daughter, Allegra. The Archive contains extensive material relating to a number of his films and centres on the making of The Dead, as well as draft scripts, recordings, publicity materials, interviews and legal documentation.

The exhibition on display in the Library foyer relates to the recently accessioned Huston Collection, containing images, scripts, artifacts and associated material relating primarily to the life and work of John Huston. The display runs until Christmas and can be viewed during Library opening hours. A descriptive list of the entire collection is available.

We are planning our "Irish Heritage Month" program, to be held in Connecticut College, New London, CT. USA in March 2011. The purpose of our program is to educate andd raise awareness and appreciation of Irish history and culture.

We try to include one program on Arts as related to Ireland. Recently, I read about the John Huston Archive. Might there be available a DVD on John Huston's life and career?

Similarly, are DVDs available in your files on other Irish and Irish-American fine arts personalities, who would be recognizable to American audiences.

Thank you for your consideration.
