This event previews and introduces Student Entrepreneurship structures on the way for NUI Galway. It also highlights Student driven Entrepreneurship on campus. In addition, this event is being organised as part of Startup Gathering 2015.

Topics and speakers

What difference could a MakerSpace make? (Connell Cunningham)

Working in the NUI Galway Library Connell’s focus is on managing the services delivered through the Library & IT Service Desk. His emphasis is on ensuring that where possible users can avail of self-service but with knowledgeable staff on hand when needed. Prior to joining NUI Galway Connell worked firstly as a teacher and then in various IT service roles with multinational companies in the engineering and biotech fields. An avid maker with a shed full of bits and pieces he’s usually working on some project or other.

Countdown to Liftoff - Blackstone LaunchPad at NUI Galway (Michael Campion)

Michael Campion lectures in the J.E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics at NUI Galway. He teaches strategic management, innovation and entrepreneurship to undergraduates and postgraduates. He is very active in the entrepreneurial ecosystem both within the University and in the Galway region. Prior to joining NUI Galway, Michael worked in the ICT industry for over twenty five years in a variety of managerial positions with indigenous companies, start-ups and multinational organisations including Digital Equipment, Lotus Development, Claris Corporation and Saville Systems.

Entrepreneurship on Campus: A Students Perspective (David Newell)

David is a 3rd year Electronic and Computer student in NUI Galway. He is founder of Student Startup, a week-long programme introducing students to startups through workshops, mentorship, speakers and events. He is Head of Administration for NUI Galway's Entrepreneurship Society and is an avid web and mobile developer.

Sustainable Entrepreneurship (Orlagh Reynolds)

Orlagh is a 3rd year PhD student in Management. The focus of Orlagh's research is sustainability-oriented entrepreneurship, and how institutional factors might constrain and enable venture idea creation and start-up. Outside of academia, Orlagh has worked with many local community groups in Limerick, Cork and Nottingham in the UK, and Orlagh is passionate about making a sustainable contribution for the community.
