Book of the Month

We are celebrating the Ringling North Collection in the Special Collections Reading Room and our book of the month for June is Les émaux champlevés de la princesse Marie Ténichév by Denis Roche (Paris: J. Povolozky & Cie., 1922?). Maria Klavdievna Tenisheva (1858–1928), princess, philanthropist, artist and collector, was a renowned patron of the arts in turn of the century Russia. 20 colour plates illustrate her designs in champlevé enamel and range from letter openers and plates to candelabras and goblets, produced in bronze, silver, gold and ivory. Denis Roche (1868-1951), a translator by profession, brought Nabokov and Chekhov (among others) to the attention of French readers, but this work is one of several authored by him on the Russian arts. Little is known about Jacques Povolozky, but this beautifully marbled and hand-illustrated folder is a testament to the collectability and quality of his work as an emigré publisher. Science Direct Off-Campus Issues

NUIG users are currently experiencing problems accessing Science Direct journals from off-campus. We have reported this issue to Science Direct and are working with them to resolve this issue as soon as possible. The Shibboleth method of getting off-campus access can still be used, by following these steps: Step 1: Click on other institution login. Step 2:  Search for NUI Galway Step 3: Sign in with your NUIG username and password. Please note: Access to Science Direct from on campus is working as it should.
