Located just inside the entrance of the library the Library & IT Service Desk is your first point of contact for your Library and IT queries.  We can help you with a wide variety of topics ranging from "How do I borrow a book  using one of the self issue machines?"  to "How do I connect to Wifi?" During term time we are open from 08:30 to 22:00 Monday to Friday and also 09:30 to 12:00 on Saturdays. With over 500,000 books, 400,000 e-books and 70,000 e-journals in the Library finding the book or journal you want could feel like finding a needle in a haystack. Come along to our Finding Books and Journals training and in just 30 minutes discover how easy it is when you know how! Other essential tips you'll pick up at this training session: How to put a hold on a book that's in high demand, so the next available copy is reserved for you. How to renew your books online and avoid paying fines. From September 22nd to October 4th this training is available every day, Monday to Friday at 11.00 and 19.00, and at 11.30 on Saturdays. No need to book, just drop in to the Library Training Room on the entrance level.

       11.00am  Drop-in  Getting Started in the Library  training session is cancelled.      and the  2.00pm  Drop-in  Getting Started in the Library  training  session will take place at  3.00pm in the Library Training Room.    

Using our groups study rooms is now completely self service. In the past you had to pickup the pack containing the key for the group study rooms from the Library and IT Service Desk but that's no longer the case. The group study room packs are now located in the Holds Request Collection Room so you can pick them up and return them without coming to the desk. No more queuing. The process works as follows: Log into to your library account at http://library.nuigalway.ie Search for Group Study Room in the catalogue Book one of the rooms for an available 2 hour slot Go to the Holds Request Collection Room and use your Student ID card and the pack for the group study room on the self issue machine to check out the pack to your account. When finished use the same self issue machine to return the pack and place it in the hold on the wall Remember - Group study rooms are only held until 15 minutes after the booked time. After that any student can take that room.

1965 Peggy Hayes, Donal McCann & Stephen Rea in 'Church Street' To enable wider access and improve usability, the Library recently added new features to the Abbey Theatre Digital Archive. These features include: Lecturer Access Login with your Campus Account Video content RSS feeds  Lecturer Access 'Lecturer Access' allows documents, audio, and video to be accessed and used in a classroom environment. To use 'Lecturer Access' simply: Login to the Abbey Theatre Digital Archive in the Archives and Special Collections Reading Room in the Hardiman Research Building using your usual NUI Galway campus account. Browse the collection of material available, and when you find something that you would like to use in class, simply add it to your "favourites".  The final step is to ask a member of staff in the Reading Room to add you to the "Lecturer" user list on the system (you only need to do this once).  You will now be able to ...

Sorcha Cusack and Siobhan McKenna in "The Plough and the Stars" 1976. Launched in Spring 2014, 'Performing Ireland' marked the first major exhibition from the Abbey Theatre Digitisation Project at the Hardiman Building. The exhibition captured key material from the Abbey Theatre Digital archive and created an interactive and engaging presence between the archive and the many stories behind the scenes as well as on stage at the Abbey Theatre over the last 110 years. A further feature is exploring links between the Abbey Theatre, the West of Ireland and other key archival collections at the Hardiman Library, such as by Lady Gregory, Thomas Kilroy, Druid Theatre Company, Siobhan McKenna, Taibhdhearc na Gaillimhe and MACNAS. Hugo Kelly is the Law and Official Publications Librarian and has worked in NUI Galway since 2000. Prior to that he had worked as Humanities Librarian in Dublin City University. In his current role Hugo is responsible for Official Publications and managing the information and research needs of Law. Hugo's role is primarily concerned with three core functions: Training Reference support Developing and  Managing Collections “There is a popular maxim that the Library is Law’s laboratory”, Hugo says. “And that is an important idea that we want to continue to promote”. Opening on Tuesday, 7th October 2014, a new exhibition will be launched in the foyer of the Library. 'Unchanged but the Spirit...' will present a display of physical and digital archive material from the collections of the Hardiman Library and will also, in collaboration with the Russian State Art Library, Moscow, feature for the first time in Ireland, an exhibit of archive material from the acclaimed production of The Seagull which was written by Anton Chekhov and directed by Constantin Stanislavsky, and staged at the Moscow Art Theatre, 1898. The exhibition is a unique opportunity to engage with a visual exploration of the production history of the Seagull  and other shared histories of Irish and Russian Theatre.
