As part of the LARK information schedule we will be presenting an information session on a variety of E-Resources for literary and historical research on the 19th Century. Venue is the Library Training Room at 12noon on Thursday 18 February.

Subject Librarians and other members of the subject support teams will be available in the Library Foyer from 22 to 24 February, between 11am and 3pm: Monday 22 February: Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies Tuesday 23 February: Science, Engineering, Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences Wednesday 24 February: Law and Business They will be very pleased to help with any aspects of your work, especially if you want to find better ways to research your assignments.

The latest item to be made available to researchers through the archives service is a medical manuscript from the mid-nineteenth century. Entitled an Atlas of Anatomical Drawings to illustrate the work of Wilson, Carpenter and others … (Dublin, 1859), the work consists of 28 plates of drawings of anatomy, with hand-written notes on each plate. The item is listed under A41, and is available for consultation at the Special Collections Reading Room. The item was donated by Prof. Seán and Mrs. Frances Lavelle to the Library, and will be a welcome addition to a number of collections dealing with teaching in Irish universities in the later nineteenth century.

Come along to a demonstration of the James Hardiman Library's scanning equipment which will take place in the Library Digitization Centre on the top floor of the Library at 12:00 on Thursday 11th and Friday 12th February . The Library Digitization Service is available to staff and postgraduate students wishing to digitize material to support research, teaching or publication. The Library Digitization Centre houses three high spec scanners: 1) A Kirtas 1200 book scanner which can scan a bound volume at a rate of over 600 pages per hour, using a an automatic page turning mechanism. 2) A Bookeye 3 A1 scanner which can scan large format material such as newspapers and maps. This scanner is also suitable for scanning loose material, for example archival collections. 3) A Nikon Coolscan 500 slide and film scanner which can be used to scan 35mm negatives and slides. Thomson Reuters have reported that in many cases, bibliographic records with a publication date of 2010 or later will not import the year data into EndNote X2 and earlier versions. It is hoped that this issue will be rectified shortly. In the meantime this data will need to be entered manually into your EndNote Record.
