The James Hardiman Library is hosting an exhibition of more than 80 photographs by Colman Doyle. The exhibition, on loan from the National Library of Ireland, displays a selection from almost 25,000 images by Colman held by the National Library. Colman was probably Ireland's first documentary style photographer, with his portraits of political leaders and literary figures, as well as for his photographs of ordinary people throughout Ireland. As a sports photographer, he acquired a huge reputation for his action shots of GAA matches and horse races. The exhibition, located on the ground floor of the Library, includes portraits of politicians such as Charles J Haughey and Eamon de Valera, and visiting dignitaries including John F Kennedy and Princess Grace of Monaco. There are fascinating vignettes of Irish life from the 1950s to the 1990s. A new University policy affecting final year students has come into operation this year. Before the end of your course or degree, you must return all Library books and other materials. Also, you must pay off all outstanding Library fines. If you fail to comply, sanctions will be imposed: your final year results will be withheld and you will not be allowed to graduate. It is the responsibility of each final year student to check your Library account before you depart the University.

The Library Basement Reading Room will be open until 1.30am from Monday 19 April (Monday to Sunday). As a safety measure, swipe card access has been put in place. To gain access to the Reading Room after 23:00, you must use your student ID card. To have your ID card activated, please take it to the Security Office in Distillery Road. There is a telephone outside the Reading Room, if you need to contact the Security Office for any reason.
