Service of the Month: Library & IT Servicedesk
Library & IT Servicedesk Service of the Month
The Library & IT Servicedesk provides level 1 support for both library and IT queries.
What does that mean? That means if you have a library or IT query and aren't sure where to go for help, reach out to us. It may be a simple fix that we can handle at the desk; if it isn't, we'll do our best to get you on to the right person or service, whether within the Library, ISS (the University of Galway's IT department), or elsewhere within the university.
One area we can help with, for example, is borrowing books. A lot to do with borrowing books can be done on your own. You can discover books that you're looking for by using the library catalogue on our website for example, once you've located it on the shelf, you can use our self-check machines with your student card to take books out.

You may need a helping hand sometime. If you aren't sure how to locate a book on our shelves, for example, we can explain how the shelf numbering system works so that you can find the book you want. If all print copies are gone from the shelf, we can point out if an electronic version is available via the library catalogue.
For IT queries, some of the queries we most frequently handle is connecting to wifi and multi-factor authentication set up. We can also give guidance on using the onsite printers and direct you to the University supported software.
We can help you get help
The library and ISS provide a host of different supports to both students and staff. You can find academic writing support within the Library; high-spec computers and creative devices like 3D printers; help finding high quality scholarly information to be successful with assignments; unique heritage collections; and a reading list service that supports teaching. Whatever support you need, come to the Library & IT Servicedesk and we'll be able to get you in touch with the right service owner if we aren't able to help you right at the desk.

Many ways to be in touch
We provide a service in a multitude of forms. You are very welcome to come to our physical desk, which is on the main floor of the Library, straight after you come inside the electronic gates.
We can also be reached electronically. Emails to library@universityofgalway.ie will come to Library & IT service staff in the first instance. You can also contact us by phone, we're available at 091 49 3399.
You can also get in touch with us via online chat, which you can find in the bottom right hand corner of our website. Unlike a lot of chats these days, our chat operates with real live human beings behind it, not a robot.
Welcome to the Library! We hope to see you sometime at the Library & IT Servicedesk.
