We're deep into the summertime now, and campus is pretty quiet! But we've still got a few training opportunities upcoming at the library. If you are on campus, why not take advantage?

We've got introductory sessions to our new Reading List Service taking place every Thursday at noon.

On Monday, July 18, 2 p.m., we've got an introduction to Endnote.

Find-eR is the new European Commission Library interface

Find-eR is the new European Commission Library interface that provides access to quality resources about the European Union.

It is a central location for accessing:

  • European policy documents from across the European institutions
  • Relevant Official Publications from a number of international organisations
  • Full text journal articles and ebooks where a subscription exists
  • European research papers
  • Historical material
It replaces the old ECLAS interface and provides links to full text where available. If it looks familiar that is because it uses Primo, the same discovery tool as our own Library system.

If you have any queries about using Find-eR or any EU resource please contact:

Launch of new Reading List Service - June 20th 12.30

The Library's Reading List Service has had a revamp and now comprises Reading List Software and a new team of staff to support the service.

The Reading List Software (co-funded by the Student Projects Fund) greatly enhances and facilitates communication between teaching staff, students and the Library.  It will help us all improve the student experience of accessing content they've been asked to read, by linking students directly to the content they need to read straight from Blackboard and by ensuring the library knows what students are being asked to read, so that we can provide sufficient access/copies of that material.

All staff of NUI Galway are invited to join us for the launch of the new Reading List Service by Dr. Pat Morgan, Vice-President for the Student Experience on:

Monday 20 June 2016

at 12:30

in the James Hardiman Library foyer

Light food and refreshments will be provided.  Please register your attendance for catering purposes.

The staff of the new team will be on hand to demonstrate the software and answer any questions you may have.

Read more about the Reading List Service or contact the team at readinglists@nuigalway.ie.

We will also be demonstrating the reading list service in the foyer of Aras Moyola during the CELT Symposium on Friday June 17th - come by and see us!

Print Journal Archive

E-journal publishing and preservation has matured in the last decade and is now a secure and reliable  mode of delivery for journals.  For that reason, the vast majority of the journals the library makes available are now delivered as e-journals.

However, the print journal remains a valuable resource in its own right, both as a physical artefact, often beautifully bound and illustrated, and as a piece of history, telling the story of how both research and scholarly communication has developed over the history of the University.

For this reason the Library values and will continue to develop, preserve and promote our unique print journal archive.  Our Print Journal Archive Policy specifies the sort of journals that the Library undertakes to preserve and retain in print, regardless of future online availability.  A list of journals held by the library that we have identified as belonging to the Print Journal Archive is now available.
